BECOME THE MEDIA! - Among Blue Century's goals is empowering citizens to "take back the media." Digital technology allows anyone to produce radio spots without needing expensive recording facilities. In smaller markets like ours, 30-second spots on AM talk radio can be bought for under $10.
We have created messages that speak to the "better angels" of voters' natures, Democrat, Republican or independent. And we run them not just on progressive talk radio, but the Limbaugh station too. Why just preach to the choir?
We encourage activists elsewhere to do the same. Blue Century's radio spots were prepared to help do just that. Or write and record your own. Many computers come preloaded with audio editing software. Or try Audacity. It's free, open-source software. Read Robert Millman’s primer on taking your message to radio.
Federal and state regulations typically allow an individual to spend whatever he wishes to promote his/her political beliefs. Thus, an individual is free to buy time on local station with just a credit card, and with no other reporting required. Two or more people pooling their funds may have to register as a state and/or federal PAC, or else funnel their funds through some a PAC or a 527, such as Blue Century.
